Visual Web Developer and Frontpage

Can Visual Web Developer Express and Frontpage Extensions coexist on the
same IIS 6 server? I tried using VWD on a page created with Frontpage. It
found a few errors (orphan tags, and so on) which were easy to fix.
However, it did not like the hit counter that frontpage had added. It
complained about a count file - which I did not know how to fix.

Is Visual Web Developer Express "better" than Frontpage, and if yes, how?
Should I remove the Frontpage extensions from the server?

Thanks.

FP extensions uses (like most hit counters) a file that is exactly where the
FP code is pointed to. If there is an error in uploading/converting
filepaths then the extensions fail. If your using an external Ftp program
to upload your FP code you need that code to live in the same physical path
on your workstation that it lives on the server: eg: \Inetpub\website or
whatever.

Since I don't use "Visual Web Developer" I can't offer a compare and
contrast. However most "high level" html editors like frontpage,
dreamweaver and probably Visual Web Develper depend on code that integrated
into the website some how. FP uses a variety of "hidden" sub-directories to
do that as well as the FP extensions. You can setup FP so it will not allow
you to insert any FP extensions widgets into your website. You can also
control the level of javascript, html and other complexities that FP will
generate for you. It all depends on the level and type of web browser you
want to be able to successfully visit your site.

Hope this helped.
