VLOOKUP returns #VALUE! until you click enter in formula bar

I have strange problem with VLOOKUP command. I generate Excel
spreadsheet automatically with Spreadsheet::WriteExcel module. I
specify correct VLOOKUP command but it returns #VALUE!. Both lookup
value and lookup table are of the same format and there are no
invisible characters in cells. As soon as I click enter in formula bar,
correct result shows without changing anything else. Any idea what's
going on? I have lots of rows and I don't want to click enter in each
field to get correct result.

This is a known problem with the formula parser in
Spreadsheet::WriteExcel and not really a problem with Excel.

Have a look at the following for a workaround:
