Voice mail indicator

Does anyone know if it is possible to detect a "voice mail
waiting" signal with Outlook or another Office component? An
add-on might be another solution or possibly something using the
phone modem that I only use for faxing. Perhaps I will have to
wait until I buy a new phone tho' I do have an AT&T caller ID
screen attached to a simple phone in parallel with the modem.
It will activate a "new call" light but it's not very
satisfactory since it turns itself off under some conditions :)

The modem functions belong to Windows, not Office. I presume that you have tried using google to see if such an add-in is available?

My attempts using Google have mostly resulted in ads to buy a
new phone :) I will try the windows.help&support group. Thanks!

Thanks for the advice! I do tend to agree about seeking modem
functions in a Windows group but isn't it a little hard to
amintain that it's not an Office question if you consider that
Outlook has a phone dialer capability?

It hands off that function to the Windows dialer.

That sounds like a cop-out especially since there seems no way a
non-expert could know it :)

Cop-out or not (a pretty judgemental assessment IMHO) the fact remains. Outlook has no control over the dialer - Windows does.

Thanks Milly! :) The point is now essentially moot since I
splurged and spent all of $25 on an AT&T cordless phone (E2801)
from Circuit City that has a voice mail indicator light. It's
not perhaps the greatest phone for populating its memory but it
seems to work.

Not a bad price to pay for getting something done that you need. Plus, you have another "dustable" in your arsenal now.
