voice recognition

Another question from a former Word for XP user. Is it not possible to
use voice recognition with Word in OSx? I can figure out how to have
the computer speak text to me, and how to use OS commands with voice
recognition, but I can't figure out where/how/if it's possible to speak
and have what I'm saying appear as text...

Hi,

The built-in voice recognition for MacOS lets you operate the finder and
move the cursor around, but as you have discovered it is not a robust
do-everything voice recognition program.

For that you need specialized software, just like you did when you had
Microsoft Windows.

The best one that I know of is IBM's ViaVoice. Details are here:

I know this may frustrate some people, but I actually bought a shareware set
of "KSD" files for ViaVoice (voice recognition library files) that includes
all the commands for Word, Powerpoint and Excel. The problem is that I have
no record now of where I bought them! The files I have don't list the author
or contact address. I have hunted for them on the internet and can't get any
'hits'.

ViaVoice actually comes with a 'KSD' editor that allows you to create such
files but it is a lot of work to do. With them, you can control every aspect
of Word. Without them, you can launch and enter text into Word but that's
about all.

Hope this helps ...!
