Voice Recording

I am trying to record a voice on a PPT presentation. I have a good mike, I
tested it out on the mike tester. Everything works fine. However, when I try
to use it on any kind of recording device like PPT, Windows sound recorder,
Audacity, I'm not getting in sound output. Any suggestions as to what's wrong?

OK, step 1, the mic works independently of your computer. So the problem
has to be with the computer software or hardware setup.

2) Is the microphone plugged into
the correct sound card (if more that one installed)
the correct jack on that card

3) Is the sound recorder listening
Are the correct sound card drivers installed?
Is the device able to select the sound recording source? Is it set
correctly?
Is the microphone muted for recording?
Is the microphone volume turned up?
Are the sound card settings correct?
Start => Control Panel => Sounds and Audio devices =>
(tab) Audio => Sound recording => (select default sound device)
=>
Volume => (select) Microphone => Turn up the volume

Play with these two. If you still can not get the mic to record in a simple
program such as Windows Recorder, then post back. In fact, post back either
way, I'd be interested to know where the problem was.

Thanks,
