Volume full-cannot save

Chris

I am having a problem with Word 2004 for mac when I leave the program
running all day. Late in the day when I go to save I get an error
message that says "Desination volume full, cannot save. Please choose a
new volume". What can be done to save your work at this point? All I
can do is loose the data. I know it has to do with the auto save but is
anyone else run into this problem?

Haven't a clue, but for a hope of getting accurate advice, you will need to
state OS version and clarify whether you are saving to a local drive,
removable media, or a network drive, or what.

Which OS X? Exactly, down to 10. ? . ? .

There are known issues with saving to network drives. Do you ever see this
message when saving to a local drive?

I'm not sure why it happens, but I do know a way to save the data. If
you get the Desintation full message, cancel. Then do a save as with a
different name. This usually tricks Word into believing it is a brand
new document. Sometimes, it is necessary to select all > copy. Then
close Word -- save the stuff on the clipboard. Reopen a new file and
paste and save. You may loose some formatting but it's much better than
loosing all of the work.

Thanks for the help. I am running OS X 10.3.4 and saving to a local
drive. Usually only happens after the program has been running all day.

Out of curiosity, is there any reason why you're running on 10.3.4?
10.3.9 is the latest version of Panther. There have been a # of fixes
including for fixes for security holes after 10.3.4.

To save what's in your current document, try cutting and pasting small
pieces of it into new files, and save and close each new file as you
go. You may at least save part of your work.

To avoid this in the future, someone at Microsoft suggested these
steps:

Open "User/Admin/Library/Preferences" and trash the file
"com.microsoft.word.plist".

Open "User/Admin/Library/Preferences/Microsoft" and trash these
files: "com.microsoft.word.prefs.plist" and
"com.microsoft.office.prefs.plist".

Good luck!
