VPMSECE3.dll Add-in Cannot be installed

I reinstalled Outlook 2003 yesterday and, after setting up my email account,
copied the Outlook data files which I had saved. But after copying the data
files and relaunching the program, I got an error message saying that a
Symantec Antivirus add-in named "vpmsece3.dll" could not be installed or
loaded. It was suggested that I try using Detect & Repair, which I did, but
that did not fix the problem. Any idea how I can install or load this add-in
again?

Ask Symantec. It's their product that's messed up.

Just to update: I found a solution on Symantec's website.

They have a "fix tool" you can download called "SavPluginUtil.exe". In ran
this utility and clicked Yes to delete the "Extend.dat" file and the problem
went away.

I solved the "Add-in cannot be loaded" problem for Outlook 2007.
Go to Tools/Trust Center... then, on the left, select Add-ins. In that
window there is a drop down at the very bottom - select 'Exchange client
selections' and click the 'Go' button - in that window you will see the
add-in that cannot be loaded. Deselect (uncheck) it.

That solved the problem for me. My 3 were all McAfee. I had unchecked them
in Outlook 2003 but Outlook 2007 does not notice that the add-ins were not
wanted and copies and activates them so we all have to uncheck them again.

It is a Microsoft problem. Not a problem with 3rd party vendors.

wanted and copies and activates them so we all have to uncheck them again.

Copies? Did you use the tool to move files to a new machine? This problem
often happens - and with any addin - when you transfer files and settings to
a new computer. It's really better to set up your profile again, not
transfer it.

No. I did not transfer to a new computer. I installed Office 2007 Ultimate
on my current Dell XPS400 Intel 940 cpu; 4GB RAM system and removed Office
2003 with very great difficulty. The install did not remove 2003 but did
corrupt it and the MS recommended fix did not work. I used Windows Install
Clean Up to remove enough of Office 2003 to allow me to reinstall it and then
remove it correctly using add/remove. I am still getting an Access ribbon
error message when I open a message in Outlook and the only solution I can
think of is to uninstall Office 2007 Ultimate and then reinstall it. I have
tried the Office diagnostic tool as well as the repair option on the Office
Ultimate DVD. Of course all this is taking many days of my time and, as I
suffer from rare painful neuropathies, all this fixing of what should have
worked seamlessly is most unpleasant.

Can anyone tell me how to permanently remove the McAfee Add-ins from
Outlook? I am afraid just deselecting them will enable them to be activated
yet again when I install the next upgrade several years from now.

I did remove and reinstall Office 2007 Ultimate but I am still getting that
Access ribbon error message when I open Outlook and then try to open any
message so don't bother trying to fix that the above way.
