VPN Access to Project Server 2003

MS/PM

We have a situation where a VPN remote acccess user is unable to access the
Project Server. We have reset the user for both Acitve Directory and Server
authentication without success. When logging onto the corporate network,
there is a local access portal and VPN authentication taking place what seems
to mask the standard routines. The error message is "unexpected server error"
and the user will get an "unauthorized user access" screen.
Has anyone else experience this problem, and how was it resolved?

This is definitely a case where we need more info to be able to help.

A few starter questions:

Is this same user able to login inside of the network OK? Or is that not a situation this user is ever in, i.e. they are always "outside" the network.

What is the user trying to login to? PWA? Proj Pro?

What kind of IP address is being doled out when the user connects to the VPN? Is it an address in the same subnet or VLAN that the project server lives on?

Once connected to the VLAN can the user ping the project server, either by hostname or IP address?

Have you registered your project server in your local DNS or are you relying on WINS for name resolution?

And so on and so on....
