vs.2007 - Password protecting a file

Hi there,
We just upgraded to MS Project 2007 from 2003.
I need to password protect a file ( I want some users to be able to edit it
and all others can open it read only), I am doing the following:
File, Save As, Tools, General Options
I enter a "Protection Password" or a "Write Reservation Password" and click
on OK and then Save the file. (I've tried both)
I close the file, and open again and I am not prompted to enter a password.
Other users are not prompted either.
Is there another setting that I should be paying attention to for this to
work in 2007?
Thanks in advance!
Marty

Make sure you download all the service packs and updates. This was an issue
in the past. My recommendation is to test it on a copy of your file prior to
going into production --- in the past, passwords have corrupted P2007 files
under certain circumstances.

Hi Jim,
Thanks again for your response.
I have since gone out there and got the service packs and updates; but am
still have the same problem. It just doesn't want to assign a password of
any kind, but does not give me an error message either. It just acts like
it's doing it.
Any other ideas?
Thanks so much,
Marty

Well, I've managed to work around the issue so I thought I'd post just in
case others are having the same problem. I'm not sure why this works but it
is consistently working with the three files that I am trying to password
protect.
I open the file, save it as the old vs2003 Project file, (which is what it
was orginally created in before we upgraded to 2007), close it, open it
again, and then Save As a vs2007 file and give it a password, continue with
the save, close and open it again and it will ask me for the password.

Question - is there anything that tells us what version a MS Project file
is, other than doing a File Save As and looking to see what the File Type
defaults to?
