Funny how this problem continued to occur in Outlook 2007, I found the problem, and have implemented the fix. The addin is apparently according to vista from Cyberlink, and now it is working properly, with standard IT extensive testing, 1 appointment created and modified :p

Outlook after importing Contact, Task and Calendar (with recurring
appointments) from another version of Outlook. I had suffered with this
problem and had restored my machine to its original factory state, prior to
noticing the recurrence problem. The poster then said he found a preinstalled
program called ???outlookaddinsetup??? which he uninstalled and his problem was
resolved. Well sure enough I had the same program installed and I took a
chance and uninstalled it and the recurrence problem has gone!!! (I have to
say I have no idea what the program is supposed to do though). I would be
interested to know if this fix works for anyone else.

I am not sure if this is a setting or just an error in Outlook. I have
Outlook 2003 Professional with Business Contact Manager. The problem I have
is when I go into an appointment that I have already made or when I dismiss
the alert that pops up for that event the appointment automatically makes it
an recurring appointment when I don't even go into the recurrence area. Has
anyone else had this problem? I've re-installed Outlook twice, I've restored
my computer to its original state twice and it still happens. HELP PLEASE!!

Basic Edition and am having the same problem. I can create an entry in the
Calendar ok but any changes to that appointment make it recur. As I use
Outlook extensively to manage my appointments this is causing me a great deal
of grief. Any suggestions or solutions will be gratefully received!

was told. i decided not to pay and try my luck here. My next question would
be if so many people are having this problem how is MS notified so we can all

problem. I have used Office 2003 on another PC for several years and have
never had his problem. I suspect that it is something to do with the version
being used by Dell. I have tried to report the problem to Microsoft but
because the software was preinstalled they say it has to be reported to the
vendor. I have emailed the Dell support team but as yet have not had reply. I
will keep you posted.

I tried to get this resolved today and they said that the problem is fixable
because it is the way that Outlook is configured. I was happy to hear that
they were able to fix the issue, but then they tried to charge me. I told
them I would not pay since this is a problem that came with the computer and
they refused to help me without continuing with payment.

So it seems like all of us have Dell laptops with Office 2003 for Small
Business pre-installed. I'm curious to see if Dell will ever figure out this
error and fix it without payment, but I learned all I need to know today
about Dell's customer support. Needless to say I will NEVER purchase a Dell
again.

If the Dells seem to be a pattern, then I'd siggest it is buried in all the
pre-installed trial crap that Dell includes. Were I in the situation, I'd
first try uninstalling all the junk Dell installs by default and if that
didn't work, reformat the hard drive and start from scratch with a clean OS,
installing exactly those things I wanted and nothing else. I always request
Dell send me the real install disks instead of using the system restore
disk, which just puts the crap back on.

Recurring Calendar event
Very very interesting, I have had the same problem since November on a clients laptop and YES it is a dell with business contact manager (pc not affected).
I have posted the problem on the Discussions group at Microsoft but as yet no fix.

I too have spoken with Dell, the so called second line support connected remotely and tried to fix by renaming the dat files, this did not work. After waiting a week for them to get back to me I could not wait any longer so I called them. There answer was to reinstall the software (this is not an option). I spoke to the manager and he point blank said that dell is only a hardware company not a software company and they can not guarantee a fix (so why are they pre-installing software). So how I am waiting for customer services to call me, I will not hold my breath

I also had the same problem.
I also had the same problem. I bought my wife a Dell laptop and it
came with Microsoft Works and a trial version of Office. My wife was
setting up events/appointments in Outlook and when she would go to make
corrections and re-save the event it would throw it in the calendar as
a recurring apointment every week day.

After unistalling the "outlookaddinsetup" this fixed the problem. I
just wanted others to know that what Graeme wrote works. I also
unistalled Office with the Business Contact Manager and I'm running off
a completely different version.

dell) and did not install the contact manager. I noticed right away
that trying to edit events would set them as recurring, very
frustrating. I looked in my Add/Remove programs and I also had the same
program listed "outlookaddinsetup". So I uninstalled it and it seems to

I received my brand new Dell laptop for work and quickly started usingthe

the outlook calendar. Right away I noticed this glitch, but nobody
else at work was suffering from it. It was so frustrating looking at
these columns of repeating appointments, made scheduling a nightmare.
I spoke with IT and they said they would look into it. They posted
everywhere and received no solid responses. Today the glitch happened
again so I did some more searching and stumbled upon this post. I've
tried the fix and it seems to be working so far. According to IT they
purchase the laptop from Dell with the Office preinstalled (didn't
have a choice on that). They ripped out all of the Dell junk,
including the preinstalled office and then reinstalled Office 2003
Enterprise. Apparently they missed this "outlookaddinsetup" program,
but they're aware of it now and are spreading the word to other
forums.

Thank you SO MUCH for your detective work. I too have a Dell Laptop. Office Works was pre-installed, but I uninstalled it upon arrival and installed the full Office 2003.

I was doing okay until my laptop crashed for the second time. After the first crash, a whole new hard drive was sent to me, so it was clean and I had control over what was installed (more or less). After the second crash I guess I immediately went to the MS website to get updates, including Office updates. So, I wasn't sure what was caused the recurring error issue...until I saw your posting about removing the add-in. THAT is when the light bulb went off and I remembered what I did to make my computer ?better?.

I would like to add that Office 2007 has the exact same problem. Of course neither Dell or Microsoft can offer a solution.

The same solution found for 2003; uninstalling "outlookaddinsetup",solved the problem.

It's to be expected because cyberlink hasn't fixed the add-in so its going
to be a problem in all versions of Outlook it works with. ( It was never
outlook's "fault". )
