W2002 Picture Compression

V

I read in Que's Special Edition Using Word 2002 about Picture Compression
and I understand how to use it. However, I assumed that my file size would
be reduced--which is not the case (see example below). I can see that
Picture Compression for the Web/Screen would allow a page to load
faster--but what is the purpose of Picture Compression for Print if the file
size isn't reduced?

I have a file containing 26 images (screen prints dumped into Paint and then
saved as 24 color bitmaps, then inserted into Word). I used the Picture
Compression for Print and the file size stayed at 475 KB.

TIA,
Vivian Carroll
