W32/Swen@MM virus attempts

T

Tom Renfro

Has anyone on this forum received numerous infection attempts from the
W32/Swen@MM virus? This is the one that looks like a security update
from Microsoft. Since I posted a question to this forum yesterday,
I've since received 37 infection attempts from locations literally
around the globe. One of the attempts was rejected by an Italian mail
server and this contained the email addresses of attempted
transmissions. ALL of these addresses have posted to this forum in
the last month!

I've contacted Google about this, have not heard anything yet.

The rule now is to never use a real email address in a posting. You
should munge it in some way.

However, there is a solution, of sorts. Vamsoft has produced an SMTP
script that filters out most of these SWENA virus messages. Go to

Hello Tom,
Like you I do receive all sort of viruses in my Hotmail
account. I keep them all there. (Indeed I collect
viruses).
I think that there is a virus-maker which send viruses to
all e-mail adresses in this forum. That's why Microsoft
just send a warning about the risk of using real e-mail
address in this forum. Read "Reducing Spam associated with
posting" posted here by MSFT.
