"waiting to update this folder"

I just configured a remote user on RPC over HTTP.

User sees a "waiting to update this folder" message which appears to be on
the Status Bar on the right side near the Connected ComboBox. It's been a
mighty long wait.

Suggestions?

How big is the mailbox/folder in question, and how fast is the connection?
It can take a while.
Press the CTRL key and right-click on the Outlook icon in the system tray,
and go to Connection Status to see if you're connected.....

Mailbox is large (278MB), but user is on broadband cable, and left it running
all last nite. My mailbox was about half that size, and it only took a few
minutes.

Unfortunately, user is in PA and I'm in CO, so I'm in blind helpdesk mode.

Your Connection Status suggestion led me to KB article 827330, which I
intend to work through with user before asking for more of your help.

Re Exchange Server Connection Status window:

User's PC has six rows in list box listing correct Server Name. Status on
each row is "Established". Continues to see "waiting to update this folder"
on the status bar of the Outlook window to the right of the "Connected" icon.

User has reduced size of mailbox on server to 175MB, but Outlook Inbox does
not populate.

So none of the new messages appear in the Inbox?

What if you rename the .OST file and let Outlook recreate it? (yes, it may
take a fair while)
