Wandering cursor!

R

Reggie D.

I am runing windows XP sp3 and when typing ithe cursor suddenly jumps to a
different place on the page such that I find myself typing in the middle of
something else.

Is it me, or is ther a glitch?

....And be sure to specify which version of Word you're using - it can make a
big difference.

It's just you! And me! I do it all the time :)

As Little Creature says, it's your stray fingers hitting the touchpad.

If you have a mouse connected, see if your mouse software offers you the
ability to disable the touchpad when the mouse is connected.

Cheers

Usually: START>control panel>mouse> see if you have touchpad on&off
tab or something similar there

Hello,
I am having the same problem and am on Vista/Office 2007; when I am typing,
wherever the cursor happens to be is where I suddenly am, and I am definitely
not touching the touchpad. I never had this problem on my old laptop, which
had XP and office 2003, and I thought that it may be some setting or
something but I cannot figure it out. But it definitely isn't my stray
fingers; I am a very careful typist and this is extremely annoying.

Dear Kasey,

You've landed in a discussion group for users of Mac versions of Word (not
your fault: it's a charming foible of Microsoft's web interface, which I
guess you used). The Mac OS is very different from Vista. Although several
people here use both PCs and Macs and may give you an answer soon, it's
likely that more people in a PC group have experienced your specific
problem. Here's where all the groups are listed:

....And it doesn't have to be "stray fingers" - it could be your shirt cuff,
baggy sleeve of a sweater, dangly bracelet or watch strap - anything
brushing across the pad will cause the behavior. Although it's conceivable
that there might be some other reason that's the issue 99% of the time:)

Another possibility would be if you have an optical mouse connected. They
can be very sensitive & if the reflected beam varies by the tiniest fraction
of an inch a similar pointer panic can occur.
