want opened emails to once again automatically fill window

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC
Email Client: pop

All of a sudden when I open an email it fills only 1/2 the window, instead of the whole window as it always did before. I find seeing 1/2 of my inbox in the other 1/2 of the window distracting, but I can't figure out how to get things back to the way they were.

I've tried enlarging the opened email so that it fills the window, but that has no effect on the size of subsequently opened emails.

Any suggestions? Thank you!

Following the above suggestion sets up my window in yet another format (i.e. unlike the way it was before the mysterious unrequested change in format), but I like it. Thanks!

"Yet another format?" What were your Preview Pane settings prior to making
the suggested change?

I imagine this sounds dumb, but I actually had never gone to Preview Pane before your suggestion to do so. From the first time I used Entourage (3 years ago), it would open with a window that had my folders in the left 1/3 of the window, and a running list of all the emails I'd received taking up the other 2/3's of the window. When I opened an email in order to read it, that email would fill the entire window. Then, if I clicked on "reply," the reply email would in turn fill the entire window. Once I sent the reply (or deleted or closed the original email), I would return to the original 1/3--2/3 format described above.

What happened yesterday--on its own, as far as I can tell--was that, although I still got the 1/3--2/3 format when I opened Entourage, whenever I opened an email or clicked reply, the email would take up only the top left 1/3 of the window. Thus, I'd still see the right 2/3's of the "underlying" list of emails, but the names of who sent them was covered up by the opened email.

With your suggestion, everything that I see in the window has a purpose--I see my folders on the left, then in the middle the list of emails, and on the right I see whatever email or reply I'm working on.

I'm not sure where my original formatting came from or where it went, but I'm happy with Preview Pane/On Right. Thank you!

I don't quite understand what you had going on (your description doesn't
sound familiar to me--maybe someone more experienced (one of the MVPs?) can
shed some light on it). But I'm glad my suggestion gave you helpful results.

Resize a message window to the size you want it to be and close it.
Future windows should now remember the size and position you used.

Yes, I did try that, but unfortunately it didn't work. But thank you!
