Want to use Groove with network folders

John

I've seen a couple of threads that dance around the issue, but if anyone has
some suggestions tailored to my needs, I would really appreciate it.

Is there a way I can use Groove with network folders. We have a shared
directory on our server that we use all the time. All of our files are
stored here. I would LOVE to be able to use Groove for team projects to keep
everyone synced up, but from what I've gathered, the only way to do that is
to manually save the workspace folders into the shared drive. Is there any
automated work-around? Thank you for your help!

Hi John,

You are considering using Groove File Sharing workspaces to sync laptops to
a network drive?

A groove client does not support using a network share, because it cannot be
sure it will always be connected.

What you _can_ do is install an Office Groove client onto your server (It
supports Windows Server 2003). You can then use the file sharing workspace
to share the drives which are "local" to the server. From the Office groove
client on the server, you then invite people to the file sharing workspace,
and they choose a local part of their hard disks to synch with the network
(server) drive.

Another way to do it is to store files in a Sharepoint Server document
library. and use the Office Groove Sharepoint tool to do the sync. That
works in a similar way, but you only have one client doing the sync to
sharepoint ...

I'm assuming you are on Office Groove 2007 here - of not the first option
still applies!

This is the correct way to connect remote users to a Network Share. I have
50+ remote users connecing to 30+ workspaces. It works perfect. I would
recommend that you also configure a fast desktop with the same 'User' as the
Server and check the "invite my other computers" box on each workspace. Once
the workspaces are downloaded to the desktop, you have a Disaster box with
'copies' of all you workspaces'.
