Want to use UK Spelling, but Word X sometimes switches back to US Spelling!

Ben

Hi, I want to use UK Spelling in my document and I have set this up to
do so. But often in the same document Word X will change back to
checking some parts of my document using US Spelling, even tho UK
Spelling is selected in the Spelling Preferences window. Its really
annoying as some pages it checks words ok and I can add my own to the
custom dictonary.....but often it will do down the document and start
finding words using the US dictionary and the Add button is dimmed.

This is getting really frustrating. Can any one help me please?

Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben,

I'll bet your document contains paragraphs pasted in from other sources?
Those paragraphs are likely set to English(US). It's not enough to set a
language default for your documents since individual paragraphs (and even
characters) can have different language settings.

Tab into one of the sections where spelling doesn't work. Go to Tools>
Language and see what the language setting is. US, right? What you need to
do is select the whole document and change the language setting to
English(UK).

Ben,

Beth is spot on (as usual).

My comment applies if this happens often.

I use Australian English for most of my work and incorporate text from other
Australians (usually on PCs) who have their computers inadvertently set to
US English. The problem occurs so often that I have a button on a toolbar
containing a macro (easily recorded) to apply Australian English.

Post back if you need any further info.

building.)
