Wanted: Lightweight Word alternative with noncontiguous text selection (multi-selection)

Alex Wenzel

Hi,

I (have to) use Word 97 at work and desperately want to have some program
which enables me to do noncontiguous text selection (selecting several
blocks of text at the same time for copy/paste; I think this is
"multi-selection" in newer versions of Word), which Word 97 can't do.
There were several programs which could already do that several years ago
(e.g. Nisus Writer for Mac, StarOffice; the former is for an alien platform,
the latter is way too bloated).
Because it is a special purpose tool (I'll still use Word for formatting
etc.), it should be a small application which starts quickly, and it would
be nice if it was freeware or inexpensive shareware.
The only other prerequisite ist that it has to be able to read/write Word 97
and/or RTF files flawlessly.
It could be an older program as well; the last resort would be a plain text
editor (which, of course, couldn't do Word/RTF import/export).

Any ideas?

Thanks for help.
Alex
