Which problem??
I doubt if you would let your staff get away with asking a meaningless
question like that
Which version of Word are we talking about?
I am running Word 2004 and Word 2008 on Snow Leopard, from which this answer
is coming.
There are only two cautions you need:
1) Prove your backup exists and is complete. If you have a good backup,
nothing will go wrong and you won't need it. If you do not have a good
backup, you WILL need it. That's just the law of the universe...
2) Make sure your current OS and your Microsoft software are FULLY
up-to-date. OS X will behave badly if it is pending updates before the
upgrade. Office 2008 won't run at all unless you have the updates in place
when you upgrade.
3) Run OnyX on the OLD operating system, hit the Automation tab, and let it
do everything it has checked on by default. The most important parts of
which are "Cleaning the Caches": there are several caches, and you want them
squeaky-clean for a good upgrade experience.
Once you have cleaned the caches, proceed directly to perform the upgrade:
if you allow the OS to run after you clean the caches, it will fill 'em up
again.
4) When OS X offers to install Rosetta, say "Yes". You may need it.
5) As soon as you have upgraded, and before running any Microsoft programs,
start FontBook and RESOLVE the duplicate fonts. There will be some, and you
will live in Crash City if you do not do this.
There you go: enjoy Snow Leopard!
I was just ready to purchase Snow Leopard, but, am quite hesitant now.
Can anyone tell us how widespread this problem is? I use Word,
exclusively. I cannot afford even a half day of downtime due to any
issues with that problem.
Thanks!
