Warning: Margins...Outside Printable Area

Hi,

I usually keep .5" margins as my default.

Whenever I print, I get the window saying, "The margins of section 1 are set
outside the printable area of the page. Do you want to continue?"

I don't need this. Is there a way to turn it off?

Thanks,

Rafael

Hi Rafael:

There is no way to turn the warning "OFF", however, there is a way to make
sure that when you see it, it's saying something useful.

1) Update to the correct driver for your printer. The driver tells Mac OS
print routine how close to the edge of the paper the printer can print.

2) Make sure the paper size you select is the paper size that really is in
the printer.

After that, if the warning says you're outside the print image, you ARE :)

Note that the warning refers very specifically to the "Margins" of the
document? Word has no problem with setting material outside the margins.
We "shouldn't" do it. But you can: if you set negative margins on a
paragraph, the first character will land to the left of the left margin.

I can't imagine any printers these days needing more than half an inch on
any side (make sure you are not using the ancient A4 Small or Letter Small
as your paper size...)

But you notice that that warning refers specifically to "Section 1"? Have a
quick check and make sure you don't have some fancy graphical elements on
the cover page that indeed ARE outside the printable area. Or perhaps: a
hidden section break on page 1 that sets margins smaller than half an inch?

Cheers

Some printers (my Epson 777) needs a little more (0.56)on the bottom
margin

Same here, but the Epson doesn't mind if I create a custom page;
eg. 11.25" and feed in an 11" thereby reducing it to .31."

Where there's a will....
