I have Office 97 running on an Windows XP Home edition computer.
Whenever I try to open a spread sheet by double clicking on the icon
either on the desktop or in a folder I get a popup dialog that says: "A
document with the name '<whatever.' is already opne. You cannot open two
documents with the same name, even if the documents are in different
folders. To open the second document either close the document that is
currently open, or rename one of the documents."
I get the same response when I right click on the icon and select open
from the pulldown menu. Of course there is no other file of the same
name open. This does not happen with other MS Office documents (MS Word
or PowerPoint). This also does not happen on my other machine (running
Windows 98). Also, if I launch the application and open the spread sheet
using the file->open menu it doesn't do this. The file does open and all
I have to do is click OK in the dialog so it is really just an
annoyance, but what is going on here?
Thanks
Jim
