Just laughs, has anyone heard or read the Flap about Outlook2007

It seems MS in in glorious decision making has Took out the IE HTML
rendering engine out of the latest version of "Outlook" and put in its
place the Word2007 HTML engine.

Anyone here using Outlook 2007 and wondering why it does work right on
HTML messages anymore.

Hi Phillip:

There are various "flaps" about Office 2007. Most of the noise is being
generated by people who a) don't know how to use it, and b) haven't tried
it.

Office 2007 is different to Office 2003 in many respects. Some people are
kvetching about that.

I haven't examined the source code here, but I would be very surprised if
everything on the PC did not use the IE7 HTML rendering engine. That would
include both Word and Outlook.

XML is Word's native format in Office 2007, so I would be astonished if it
didn't "work right". If you are saying it displays DIFFERENTLY from Office
2003, yes, I sure hope it does.

Office 2003's version of HTML was not the most standards-compliant around
:)

Cheers

Actually what the Flap about is at some website. And indicates anyone
sending html rich with content such as backgrounds, certain font styles,
Flash item even sound will be disappointed it only allows for "very,
very simple html. Bold, italics underline They show many OutLook2007
users being very disappointed. And It also actually increases the size
of the document 4-6 times or more over email over previous versions of
Outlook because they used the IE engine. And 2007 uses the word html
engine. the article is on a website called SitePoint. Looks like at
least for Ouutlook users its going to kill all W3C compatibility.

Hi Phillip:

Yeah. :) Read the man's blog. He's a "Puffer", a creator of those
infernal Spam emails that would completely blow my email off the face of the
planet if I did not program my server to delete them all before I even see
them.

The HTML stuff he's asking for has been intentionally removed from email
because that's how people embed viruses and mal-ware into emails.

The Word 2007 "HTML rendering engine" will cheerfully handle all of those
things. It does so any time it creates Word documents in XML. But in
email, it has been instructed not to permit them.

There was a post the other day by the Outlook Program Manager responsible,
saying that he's utterly sick of being the world's most damaging virus
vector, so he has chosen to switch off most of the mal-ware vermin's
most-exploited functions in the next version of Outlook.

One of the reasons I use Entourage for a lot of the email I do is that all
that cr*p is switched off in Entourage too.

It's a GOOD thing they have done. Unless you happen to earn your living
making spam emails...

Cheers

However; there is a lot of good html, non spam that gets caught in the
Axe as well.

Doesn't bother me though because OutLook is a product meant strictly for
Business use and never has been available for Home use anyway. I
couldn't afford it if I wanted to use it and They don't make a version
for Mac anyway. :)

There's no Mac OS X version, that's true; it's also true that Outlook is
aimed at the corporate user. However, the Student and Teacher edition of
Office 2003 (and maybe even earlier versions) included Outlook, among
others, which implies that Microsoft thinks that some home users (students
and teachers, primarily) may actually want to use it. I remember that
Microsoft's decision to replace Outlook with OneNote in the 2007 Home and
Student edition caused quite an uproar in online discussion groups. In a
way, Outlook and Entourage started off at two different ends (Entourage for
the home user, Outlook for the business user) and they are now trying to go
where the other one has been since the beginning (Entourage for the business
user, Outlook for the home user). Though, with the release of Office 2007,
this is no longer true, since Outlook is no longer part of the edition that
the average home user is most likely to buy.

However; there is a lot of good html, non spam that gets caught in the
Axe as well.
