Way to change selection colour?

R

Rob Schneider

In Word 2008, I'd like to be able to change the colour of selected text
from the very nice blue that is there by default, to something else. I
want to do this as I find when I'm using the Mac in brighter lighting
conditions, I can hardly see the selection.

For those conditions, I'm thinking I would like to make it more extreme,
e.g. White text on back background. I've tried using the reverse white
on blue for the whole screen but that doesn't work so well either.

Sorry Rob:

Use Help>Send Feedback to put that in as a feature request for the next
version.

The more "votes" they get (and yours won't be the first) the more likely
that is to make the cut for the next version.

Currently, the Selection employs a very simple algorithm that is not
configurable.

Sorry.

If you're referring to the highlight color - the shading - applied to
selected text, that's a function of the OS. To change it go to System
Preferences> Appearance to choose the Highlight Color you prefer... That
does nothing to change the coloring of the text itself, however, but it does
improve the contrast - I use Cantaloupe from the Crayons colors.

The down side is that Highlight Color in all areas it's used will be
affected by your choice. It's simple enough to alter on the fly though.

Bob,

Thanks. As a relatively new Mac user I wasn't aware of that setting.
I've changed to Catelope. I just wish the sun was out this afternoon to
let me try it in the back yard...

You're certainly welcome, Rob... And if that color doesn't work as well for
you as it does for me, you can always pick something else :) You can even
leave the prefs open & switch back & forth after each change until you find
what you like - it goes into effect immediately.

It's a good color. I like and respect your choice.
Sun as come out and I'm on the garden table and even in this
brighter-than-indoor-light, it's working better than the "pretty" blue
was working.

I thought the text selection color (not text color when selected-text
color remains same, just the background color shown in the selected
text) was set by the Mac Appearance Control panel.
