Wd2002: Autoformat settings don't stay saved

Connor

I regularly turn off several features in "Autoformat" and "Autoformat as you
type" options in Word 2002, but they turn themselves back on. KB291473 says
that if these settings are not being saved you should delete the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Data
I have done that several times, but the autoformat functions still keep
getting turned back on. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Do you have any add-ins in the Word Startup folder? When I had settings that
I could not save, it turned out that an add-in was changing the settings at
startup.

The problem can also be a sign of a corrupt Normal.dot file, which might be
re-corrupting the Data key. I suggest that you find Normal.dot and rename it
(Word will automatically create a new one), then delete the Data key, and
then start Word to see if the problem still occurs.
