I am running Outlook 2007 Pro and recently installed Windows Desktop
Search 3.0, on a Windows XP SP 2 machine.
For probably one or two weeks, it was working great. I could search
through all my Outlook items, including personal folders, etc. But
recently, probably two or so days ago, Outlook seems to have disapeared
from the index.
I have tried re-installing WDS multiple times, including deleting all
registry keys relating to it, I have tried restoring WDS to default
settings, I've tried rebuilding the index, all with no luck. I have
made sure my inbox and personal folders are selected for indexing in
Outlook. I have confirmed that the correct profile is set as a default
in my mail settings. I have worked through all the suggestions in the
Microsoft WDS Troubleshooting Guide. There are many other things I've
tried after reading postings on various groups, and some MS Forums. I
even uninstalled Office and WDS, rebooted, and reinstalled them both. I
have also tried deleting and recreating my mail profile.
I have noticed when WDS is building its index, it initially reports
that there are thousands of items to be indexed, i.e., it appears to be
aware of all my Outlook items, but as it scans through all the items,
they are not added to the total number of items in the index. It seems
to be scanning over them, and then ignoring them. Outlook is aware WDS
is building its index, because when I perform a search during indexing,
it tells me that the results are incomplete because indexing is in
progress (and reports no results). But when indexing is completed, it
still returns zero results. I know indexing is completed because in the
Outlook indexing status, it says that Outlook has completed indexing my
messages.
I've completely drawn a blank. I have no idea what the problem might
be, but I suspect that it's Outlook that's being funny here.
If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
