WDS 3.01 Won't install at all

Running XP SP2 and recently installed Office 2007 (haven't uninstalled
office 2003 yet). Outlook 2007 wants the WDS application for instant search.

I downloaded 3.01 and ran the install. It extracted all the files and went
about a fifth of the way through the process (according to the progress
bars) and then stopped. After about a minute it reported "Necessary update
failed to install. Refer to C:\Windows|KB17013.log."

Looking at the log file indicates installation failed because: INF_REGISTRY
Failed

Another log file created at the same time" KB915800" states Setup
encountered an error: The update.ver file is not correct."

I tried installing using the MSI file rather than the EXE.

I then tried installing version 2.66 (I think that's the correct version
number -- it's the most recent one previous to 3.01 available on Microsoft's
site), and it installs Fine.

I then thought I could update and then installing 3.01 over 2.66.

No such luck, Failed, same error.

Now I don't have WDS installed at all.

I can live without it, but since Outlook wants it, I'd like to install if
possible.

Any suggestions?

No

I was the last post, as the fix suggested does not work for me and it
appears that there is another hotpatch KB915865 that is involved and
causing the problem.

Still chasing a fix.

I'd follow it up by posting in that forum. It's really outside the scope of
Outlook and they can analyze the log files to see what hotfix is failing
there.

OK, I will monitor that page and follow up.

The new log fails with the same error as best I can see. The update.ver
file is not correct

Almost about to go back to Office XP....

"Almost about to go back to Office XP...."
don't. when you get it all working it will be fine.
