Web Access project view

I am just beginning to set up projects in MS Server 2002. There will be
multiple projects posted on Web Access, with many departments accessing them.

I would like to set up projects so that, when resources select a project,
the task sheet shows only summary tasks, enabling them to bypass sifting
through hundreds of subtasks. Is it possible to set up projects so that
they show only outline level 1, but still allow resources to roll down to
view all subtasks?

2003 lets you define the outline level that will be displayed initially in a
view, but I don't think 2002 offered this feature.

I think Jonathan Sofer still has a 2002 image, so maybe he can answer
definitively.

Mary:

If you're referring to the Project views that you can drill down to from the
Project Center, the answer is yes. 2002 allows you to set a filter in these
views when defining them. To use a filter to show only summary tasks in the
view, add the SUMMARY field to your view, then set a filter on the view
(Summary = Yes). This should present the task view with only summary tasks
displayed. You'll need to teach your users how to remove the filter through
the Filter and Group tab in the view, or create two versions of the view,
one with a filter or one without.

I knew that part of it, Gary, but I was focused on her desire to be able to
have the view automatically display only Level 1 (not necessarily all summary
tasks). Can 2002 do that?

I have checked my 2002 image and a resource can go into their timesheet and
select in their view options to show just outline level 1 if they choose.
This chose will be retained even when they log off and log back in again.

Mary, does that answer your question at all?

Thanks to those who have offered information in response to my question.

I have tried all suggestions and have come to the conclusion that it is not
possible in 2002 for resources to go to My Projects, and view a timeline in
its entirety - ALL tasks - in a summary view that allows one to click on a
plus sign to roll down to all subtasks under that specific summary task.

There are resources who need to view more than their own tasks, but who
don't want to sift through hundreds of tasks to find the area on the timeline
they wish to view. In some of the suggested views, it is possible to view
summary tasks only, but not to roll them down for subtask information.

Again, I appreciate the information you've offered.
