Web and database

General questions - enabling database work on the web.
My department maintains and develops many Access databases which are ODBC
linked to SQL databases. It looks like we are going to have to start
re-writting our databases, that have been around for years, because there is
a corporate push for web (Intranet) applications.
My question may be obvious!
We need database capabilities with web front ends..
Does dot net (.net) or asp.net allow such function.

Any advise would be helpful, my expertise is mainframe, so please speak
simple and basic!!!
