web appointment reappears though deleted off calendar

Boss has a shared calendar. He has deleted an appointment of his calendar and
no others who share his calendar have this appointment. He has republished to
web and the appointment is still there.
We have deleted all files in the server folder and republished--still there!
We've tried re adding/deleting as well.
There's nothing to delete any longer, but it still shows up on the web
version of the calendar. What do I need to dellete and recreate?
