Web Archive format in Macs

I

izimmer

Hi,

I am using some software, called WebFOCUS, that outputs an Excel file
in a
Web Archive file format (.mht or .xht). They can have many tabs across
the Excel file and
from my reading it appears that Excel XP and up allow for Web Archive
file
format on a Windows environment but I can't see to get it to open
correctly
within a Mac environment and I can't seem to find much documentation on
it.

Part of the output I am receiving in Excel for Mac looks like this:

MIME-Version: 1.0
X-Document-Type: Workbook
Content-Type: multipart/related; boundary="====Boundary===="

--====Boundary====
Content-Location: file:///C:/EX1.XHT
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit
Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii"

<HTML xmlns:eek:="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice"
xmlns:x="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:excel"
xmlns="-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0//EN">

<HEAD>
<meta name="Excel Workbook Frameset">

<xml>
<x:ExcelWorkbook>
<x:ExcelWorksheets>
<x:ExcelWorksheet>
<x:Name>New Matters for Period</x:Name>
<x:WorksheetSource HRef="./IBIT0001.xht"/>
</x:ExcelWorksheet>
<x:ExcelWorksheet>
<x:Name>Matter details</x:Name>
<x:WorksheetSource HRef="./IBIT0002.xht"/>
</x:ExcelWorksheet>
<x:ExcelWorksheet>
<x:Name>Client details</x:Name>
<x:WorksheetSource HRef="./IBIT0003.xht"/>
</x:ExcelWorksheet>
<x:ExcelWorksheet>
<x:Name>Other Party details</x:Name>

Is there a setting that I can change to fix this? Or a patch? Or does
Web
Archive file format simply not work on Macs??

Thanks,

Ilan

Pasted from my reply to your post in the "old" ng - however, I believe the
best source of information on the matter will be the developer of WebFocus.

Hello Ilan -

FYI, this is a defunct newsgroup which has moved to:

microsoft.public.mac.office.excel

I just poke my nose in periodically to round up the strays:) You'll get
faster & more knowledgeable responses there if this doesn't help.

I'm not familiar with the Web Archive format you mention, but PCXL doesn't
list anything by that specific name (but it does recognize .mht). You didn't
give the extension, but I'm
assuming from the post that the format is actually XML. Unfortunately,
MacOffice XML support currently lags well behind PCOffice, so you may not
have a great deal of success. The first thing I would try is MacXL's
SpreadsheetML format to try opening the file (through the file types listed
in the Open File dialog). It depends on how close the file coding is to what
MacXL is looking for.

If that doesn't do it, you might try one of the HTML/MHTML file types, but
that probably won't be any more effective.

The most obvious - but perhaps not practical - interim solution would be to
save in XL format on a PC & then forward to the Mac :)
