Web page Formatting

I am using Pub 2007 and like it although I was dissapointed that there were
so few improvements over the last version. Please check the website at:

www.stockyardsmuseum.org which I will use as an example..

The problem:

I am getting irregular content spacing on the web pages. For example, if I
have a standard text box with regular web text and follow it with an image
below the text box, quite often but not always, the image will be pushed far
down the page when it is previewed or published. Many times I have to bring
the image up and lay it over the text box to get decent spacing. The reverse
may also be true.

I have tried tables and even with adjacent text in rows the rows are
artificially separated. I have tried to check the text formating and font
but that seems to be OK. But sometimes it is ok.

Is there some way to lock elements of the page into their reslpective
positions in relations to other elements? I waste a lot of time fooling with
this.

Thanks... XDJ

I too would have liked to see more changes in 2007, but they did make a few
good ones...but that is OT.

I looked at your site, and I must compliment you. There is a lot going on
and yet it doesn't feel cluttered or overwhelming...very attractive.

As per your problem, I don't see any problem with the spacing on this page.
If there is, post back and be more specific. As to why it can happen, I can
only share with you some of the things that have created problems for me.

If I use a code fragment box, it can shift things around if it is not sized
correctly, and sometime even when it is. I have had code fragment boxes
aligned beside a space between two text boxes, and it will spread those two
boxes in web page preview. If I move the code fragment box down or up so
that it is not lined up with the gap between the text boxes, they stay where
they are supposed to be.

If you use an odd font size of say 11 or 13, then in web page preview,
Publisher will convert them to 10 and 12. This of course results in the text
box itself shrinking, which can give you the perception of the image
shifting. I would probably avoid font "size to fit" formatting too.

Generally, you do not do any paragraph formatting other than font face and
size. Indents, bullets, and other print document formatting can create
problems.

Here is a link to formatting tips for Publisher html formatted email, that
can also apply to web pages. Look through these and see if any of those
things apply: Tips and troubleshooting for sending a publication page as an
e-mail message:

Have you tried grouping design elements to see if that keeps them from
shifting?

You did run the design checker?

Those are a few thing I can think of, and hopefully one will lead you to a
solution. If you have it happen again, post the page and ask the question
again. We might be able to tell what the problem is by looking at it.
