Web page link opens home page not the link

Seem to have had all of the various problems discussed in this forum about
opening web page links in an Outlook message, irrespective of whether IE7 or
Firefox was the default browser.

Most annoying has been the "locate link browser" pop-up, although today this
seems to have gone away today, only to be replaced by: whenever I click a
link in Outlook 2003, the browser opens a completely new window with my home
page not the page I click.

Grateful for any fixes/ideas that apply to Vista (home premium) pls.

Thanks Roady,

I had already tried changing the default program various times and it always
shows that the default browser changes to whatever I tell it to.
Nevertheless the browser which opens when clicking on a link in an Outlook
message is always IE7 (even though Firefox shows that it has all 10
defaults).

However, whilst I would also like to solve this aforementioned annoyance, my
main problem is that even IE7 doesn't open the correct link (url or web page
or whatever else it may be called). It always opens a new window with my home
page not the page I want (irrespective of whether a browser is already open
or not).

In addition, I have reinstalled and/or repaired everything I can think of .

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

See if the following key exists and if so; remove it.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Preferences
keyname: InternetBrowserPath

Sorry but I'm no expert. However, I can follow instructions . . . I'm
married!!!

Would you be so kind to explain how to get to the Key.

Thanks.

Start regedit by Start-> Run; regedit.exe
Then follow the path to that key. If you're not comfortable editing the
registry, ask somebody who is.

Hi Roady,

Because of your wise caution, I decided to wait till the weekend to attempt
the registry edit (to read up as to how to do it safely).

Unbelievably, in the meantime, the url links from Outlook mail messages have
been working fine.

Thought it may just have been a badly typed link but every single one I have
tried tonight has worked perfectly.

Have decided to leave well enough alone unless it occurs again!!!

Many thanks your advice and speedy responses.

I have the exact same issue but under Windows XP.

I have deleted the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Preferences
keyname: InternetBrowserPath

However this results in outlook asking where the browser is and after
pointing Outlook to the IE7 browser, the key is back. It opens after pointing
outlook to the browser a IE7 with my home page (about:blank as I use a blank
page).

Not sure why this happens and on another machine, same versiopn XP SP2 with
latest Microsoft XP and Office 2003 fixes (both upgraded yesterday
25/02/2008), I do not have this key. I'm puzzled.

Hi Chaps,
New to this game and was just looking for a fix as to Why my wifes profile would not launch hyperlinks but only open up the homepaged whilst mine was fine. I tried the edit registry option (very brave as this has ended in disaster before!) to no avail. I then decided I was going to blame Internet Explorer instead and tried the following:
open up internet explorer
go to internet options in the tool menu
go to the programs tab
select the reset web settings options

Worked for me

Have fun
