Web pages from Word documents

I am having a problem when I try and use a Word document as a web
page. The source file comes to me from a Windows version on Word and
is then opened on my Macintosh. The file opens normally and looks
normal but when it is saved as a web page and then opened in a browser
the document has lost its normal margins. The document is at least
twice as wide as it should be. The only information being saved is
the viewable info. I use this file to email to a music group as an
electronic newsletter. I am trying to figure out how to adjust this
web page once it is saved or how to instruct the author of the
original document how to adjust her process so that I am not left with
this odd looking web page.

Hello bogeyman -

Rather than get into all the rigmarole required to [attempt to] rectify the
web page issue, let me make a suggestion if I may;

If you're *emailing* as a newsletter and are concerned about the layout, why
not send it as a PDF instead? You'll be far better off in all respects...
Not the least of which is that as long as you're sending as HTML much of the
decision-making is done on the recipient's end, over which you have *no*
control whatsoever.

If you only save "Viewable" information you have removed the margins.

"Save only display information..." is a bad name. It actually causes the
output code to be filtered so that it is closer to HTML 3.2, removing a lot
of the extra features added in XML by Microsoft Word.

HTML does not have a concept of "pages" or "margins". It is designed to
flow to fit whatever display size the reader has, and you have no way of
knowing what size that is.

If you "Save entire file to HTML" Word attempts to preserve as many of your
paper settings as possible. The document will then open in the user's
browser looking as close to your original as Word can get it.

Many users will object if you do that. Better, I think, to reformat your
newsletter so the width doesn't matter :)

Cheers
