Web Pages load but pictures don't

We have a web page done in Publisher. In 2000 I could load the files all
individually but now I have to use the built in FTP and it doesn't load the
last bunch of pictures. I know the web page is quite large but I don't
understand how to get the pictures loaded so the web page doesn't have little
x boxes.

See all the pages linked to at the following web address for the little x
example
http://myweb.cableone.net/merritthome1/index_files/Page606.htm

The web pages look fine in publisher but aren't appearing like we'd like on
the web.

I visited the page suggested and found one thing that was causing a
difficulty (a photo was "off" the page slightly and it didn't know how to
continue apparently. However, I fixed that and now some of the photos on
three pages loaded but one didn't and it apparently "quit" uploading and the
last pages aren't even loaded. It appears that there is no way to "reload"
just one of the 22 pages or just specific photos. I also do not know why
they load so terribly slowly.

http://myweb.cableone.net/merritthome1/index_files/Page804.htm is the page
that most of the photos loaded on except one in the middle.
http://myweb.cableone.net/merritthome1/index_files/Page806.htm is the next
page and it loaded 3 of the photos.
The next page didn't load - mystery as to why. I have cableone internet
access so it is always on and is highspeed.

I also observe that the pages have ridiculous number names rather than the
titles I gave them. I use MS Publisher 2003 on my primary computer but I
have 2000 on my children's computer and have used other versions of publisher
over the years.

Denise,

There have been lots of changes in how Publisher produces web pages since
version 2000, and after reviewing all the material, you might find that
using 2000 to produce your site would result in a much faster loading site.
While Pub 2003 has many advantages, especially in print publications, IMHO I
feel that Pub 2000 is better for websites. You CAN run both versions on the
same machine.

To change the page title go to the page you want to change and look under
tools, web options...

Have you tried emptying your IE cache to see if that helps loading images?

I would also suggest spending more time exploring the information that David
Bartosik provides about using Publisher to produce web pages. Here are just
a few links that might help answer some of your current questions, and
potentially others that you haven't thought of yet:

Large graphics files increase the file size of Web sites:

Web page names do not follow the page titles when you save a Publisher 2003

Design Web pages better with Publisher 2003 (there is a section about how to
specify the file name of each Web page in your publication.):

As to your questions about linking to a PowerPoint file and "how to make it
so that the photos can be clicked on and then they will enlarge to a larger
size", I would suggest that you read the following article. Though it is
talking about Pub 2000, if you can understand the concept, you will
understand how to create folders for your PowerPoint files and different
pages or folders for larger image files and how to write the hyperlinks to
them:

Thank you for the links to other pages to read. I shall study those for
assistance. I would MUCH prefer to do the web page in 2000 BUT we have a
different background for about half of the pages and 2000 won't allow you to
do that and 2003 will. Thus I am stuck with using 2003 unless I can
understand how to do it differently. We actually have two different types of
web pages (my family site and our Pathfinder club site) but we only have one
server so I had to merge them together into one Publisher document. Perhaps
there is an easier way but I haven't heard of one yet.

You can use multiple Publisher files. I have articles on that on the
publishermvps.com site.

Version 2000 and 2002 you have to upload the whole thing. Version 2003 can
automatically only upload changed pages.

Uploading issues can be tricky to trouble-shoot but I'm not clear on what
you are even working with. You said in your first post it was 2000 but your
links in this post are clearly 2002 or 2003.

I'm hoping you aren't moving a web document back and forth between versions.
That would be a clear disaster since all three versions are different.

As David Bartosik said, you can use multiple Publisher files to produce as
many different types of web pages, with different backgrounds, as you want.
The article I referenced last, in my last post, is David's article, that
describes how to do this in Pub 2000, but of course you could do the same
thing with 2003 if you prefer.

Thanks for the great article and helpful suggestions. We did originally
start this document in Publisher 2000 (which is the version on my children's
computer). We moved it to my Notebook (which has Publisher 2003) when we
learned we couldn't change the backgrounds in Publisher 2000. I like many of
the new features of 2003 but I really do NOT like the "filtered" pages that
mean you can't edit them in HTML. Before I entered METATAGS and other HTML
codes after I had the pages done in Publisher. I did learn how to do that
within the 2003 version but I still would prefer to be able to edit the HTML
code and have the option of uploading the page via FTP rather than having
publisher control it and no way to try to over-ride it when it "fails". My
problems seem to have been fixed with the great suggestions I got here.
Thanks. Denise
