Can you share web parts across sites?

A little more information...I'd like to be able to create/modify a document
folder on one site and have it "show up" on another site.

Not exactly. Another way phrase the question would be "Can I create/modify a
Document or List and share it between two WSS sites.

Here's an example of the functionality I'm looking for. I'd like to be able
to create/modify a document library, and have it "available" between two WSS
sites.

I think the best you can do is have it live in one site, and link to it from
the other.

An easy way to do what Gary suggests is to use Front Page 2003's Data View
function.

You select this when you have in FP opened the site where you want the
read-only copy to appear; then you access (right-hand-colum) the list in the
other site you want to get the information from; you then place the
resulting web part on your page.

It's very straightforward and probably easier to do than to describe

But it is very much a read-only copy of the other site's list. Amendments
can only be made in the master copy in that other site. Also you will need
to refresh your browser to see the latest information; the copy is not
updated on a change in the master without such a refresh.
