A web query to update stock prices,

http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/external/excel/quotes.asp?SYMBOL=["QUOTE"
,"Enter
stock, fund or other MSN MoneyCentral Investor symbols separated by
commas."]

doesn't work any more. It says

"Unable to open http://investor.msn.com/
external/excel/quotes.asp?SYMBOL=NI%2CF.
Cannot download the information you requested."

What version of XL are you using? What changed recently with your setup
(i.e., the time between when it worked, and when it no longer did)? Did
anything change with your network/ISP?

This looks to me like a server glitch. %2C is the escape code for a
comma, so I'm assuming you're trying to get the symbols "NI" and "F".

Running the "MSN MoneyCentral Stock Quotes" stored query (i.e., the one
you quote) in XL04 works for me using either

NI,F

or

NI%2CF

entered in the input box.

I'm using Excel 10.1.6 on Apple MacOS 10.4.2.
The problem was solved by running the web query from the latest version
of Excel, 11.0.0. Evidently the web server has been changed so that
only the new query will run on it.

I'm using Excel 10.1.6 on Apple MacOS 10.4.2. There is a new web query
to update stock prices in Office 2004 for Mac, which works O.K..
Evidently the web server was changed so that the original query doesn't
work any more.

I'm using the latest version of Office (11.2.1) and the web query i
still broken. In contrast to other posters, I do not see any new we
query included with my version of Office nor do I see one for downloa
from Microsoft. Further, I have tried to edit the web query that
have been using for years to point it to the new server, but Exce
tells me that "web queries cannot be edited." Thus a solution to thi
problem is still needed.

Hi,

The regular install of Office includes 3 sample MSN StockQuotes web
queries. To see them use the Data menu > Get External Data > Run Saved
Query.

I put some information about web queries on this page:
http://www.agentjim.com/MVP/Excel/ExcelHome.htm

On the same page there is a free template that performs web queries. All
you haved to do is type or paste the URL of a web site into the form
then click a button and a web query will be created for you.

There's also a link on that page that explains that you can't edit a web
query directly in Excel.

The simplest web query is a text file that has a URL in it. The only
difference is that you use a .iqy file extension instead of .txt and you
get to it by using the Run Saved Query feature from the data menu (see
above). To edit the query open the text file, change the URL and/or
other parameters. See the "How to create Web query files for use with
Excel for Mac" link on my web page.
