Web Services Edition update refused

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

I am running Entourage 12.2.1 on OS X 10.5.8 on a new Macbook Pro 15. It was built from a Time Machine backup of my previous Macbook Pro 15.

I downloaded the Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition. The update halted with the following message:

"Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition cannot be installed.

"At least one of your e-mail accounts does not meet the requirements necessary for Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition. Installing Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition will make one or more of your e-mail accounts inaccessible."

I can't find any information to tell me why this is happening, and what I can do to resolve it.

Sounds like it is complaining about your Exchange account. Your Exchange
server needs to be Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1 running Update Rollup 4. If
it's not, then it would break your Exchange account in Entourage.

My understanding is that it will not install if it detects you are not
using Exchange Server 2007, which is required. Is your Exchange Server
version 2007?

Ah! Thanks for the hint. I thought that this error message was independent of the requirement for Exchange 2007 SP1/Rollup4 (because that seems to have an error message specifically for it).

I'll check with my IS guys.

I am having the same issue. How does the mac know if my account is on
exchange 2007 SP1/Rollup4 if I did a clean install because I was
running the Beta and I have no profile or email accounts setup? So
far the Beta work better for me.

The beta had the same Exch2007SP1/UR4 requirements so if it worked with the
beta you would think it would work with the released code. However I've
been surprised by Entourage before :)

I *suspect* it looks at the settings in your identity and pings the
server entered there.
At least, that's what would make the most sense to me.

I'm having the exact same problem and we are on Exchange 2007 SP1 Rollup4 in fact we are on a later version. Could someone please post away to fix this problem. Do I need to delete my exchange account and re add it? Do I need to delete my POP3 account?

I¹ll give you the exact same reply...

Did you follow the directions to remove completely, install from the Office
DVD, update to 12.2.1 THEN apply the EWS updater?

That would work if I had a beta version of EWS. I was not part of the Beta.

Simply doing a re-install should allow you to update to EWS after you
install Office 2008 and update to 12.2.1.

Do you meet these qualifications?

Microsoft Exchange Server: Connectivity to Update Rollup 4 for Microsoft
Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB952580) or later version.

Update Rollup 4 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB952580)
must be applied to both the Mailbox server and the Client Access server
roles.

I am experiencing the same problem mentioned above. I was running
Office 2003, which I uninstalled according to the directions. I then
installed Office:mac 2008 (business edition), which is version
12.2.1. Our network is running Exchange SBS 2007 w/ SP2.

When I try to install the Web Services Edition Update, it does not
allow. The following message is displayed: "Entourage 2008, Web
services edition update can't be installed. A version of the software
required to install the update was not found on this volume."

I cannot find any solution on the Mactopia site. Does anyone know of
a solution?

Thank you,
-Jd

Have you restarted after installing? Sometimes a locked temp file will block
further updates. Restarting should fix that.

Are you absolutely sure your server meets the requirements?

Microsoft Exchange Server: Connectivity to Update Rollup 4 for Microsoft
Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB952580) or later version.

Update Rollup 4 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB952580)

I've been able to do some more research on this since getting my own
Exchange Server 2007 account set up with EWS.

The installer does check to make sure your account and any others, such
as delegates, are all 2007 accounts. I don't believe it is necessarily
checking your server itself but rather your identity.

If you go to your home folder to:

~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities

then you will see one or more folders. Each of these is an identity.

Temporarily move each identity folder to your Desktop and then run the
EWS installer. It should work. Then drag your identity folders back and
launch Entourage. You should be prompted to upgrade one or more of them.

Hope this helps!
