I have uploaded my web site (created in Microsoft Publisher) and it opens to
an index instead of the home page. you can access the pages from the index,
but the navigation bars don't work.

Rename your home page index.htm (or html). You may need to redo links to
that page, though.

Here is a total guess. You are using Pub 2002 and when you produced your
html you did not use the default index.htm file name for your home page.

If I guessed wrong, then post the URL, Publisher version used and more
details as to your problem.

I am using Publisher 2003, and changing the name of my home page to
index.html made it worse!

Well, you didn't provide the URL or the details, so I can still only guess
at your problem, or the solution. So, perhaps read some of this reference
material, and if that doesn't lead you to a solution, post back with the URL
and the details of what you are doing, and we will try again.

The site is www.sandyshusqvarna.com.

OK, good. The problem is that you have saved your web pages as Single file
Web page, or .mht files. Your browser is looking for the index.htm file, and
you don't have one.

What you should do is to Publish to the Web (not File > Save As), and let
Publisher use the default index.htm file name when saving. You will end up
filtered html with an index.htm file and a index_files folder, and need to
upload both, after deleting all the .mht files on your server.

Read that first link...

Thanks - that has almost fixed the problem! The web site still opens to the
index, but now when you click and open the site, the navigation bars work, so
it is usable. Is there something else I should do?

D

DavidF

Yes. When you Publish to the Web to produce your html output, save your home
page as "index.htm" , not "sandyshusqvarna.htm". Browsers look for the
default index.htm or index.html file when they go to a web site, not
sandyshusqvarna.htm. That's why you still just see your directory, instead
of your site loading. Delete the old files and upload the new index.htm and
index_files folder, and you should be good to go.
