I have designed and run my own web site for a few months, using Publisher.
Someone asked me to design a site for them which I did. The problem came
when I tried to 'view web site'. It knocked my original site out. There is
still a site there but only displaying part of the home page and nothing more.
I have deleted from my FTP and deleted all sved index files and started
again, saving and uploading, but nothing seems to work.
Can anyone out there help please? (In plain english though if possible, I'm
blonde)

Is it possible you overwrote your files with those from the site you
were building?

I don't know why working on another person's site should have had any impact
on your site, unless you tried to upload it to your host? Sounds like you
need to start fresh. Delete the old index.htm file and index_files folder
that are on your host. Open your Publisher document, Publish to the Web,
produce new html output and upload it. If that doesn't solve your issue,

Thanks for the reply's but I have already done what David suggested and it
makes no difference to what I view. I have spoken to someone and they can
view my website in it's entirety so it appears it's just on this computer (I
hope). How do I get to view my site, and stop this happening in the future?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the URL of your website? What happens when you open your Publisher
file, and you do a Web Page Preview? We need details of what is happening.

My URL is www.fulstowbrewery.co.uk. When I open the publisher file
everything is there, all 7 pages, but when I do a Web Page Preview I only get
part of the first page, some text and no pictures. Any links on that page
also do not work.

Are you using IE7? You can see the version under Help.. About.

Open you Publisher file and run the Design Checker. What does it find?

How wide is your page? From the URL it appears too wide. Are you using the
default 760 pixel width?

Are you using a master page?

After opening your Publisher file, do a Save As to a new name. Close, reopen
the new file and try the web preview. What happens?

Publish to the Web with the new Publisher publication, but direct the html
output to your computer where you can find it. I would suggest a folder on
your desktop. Then open that folder and double click the index.htm file.
What happens?

Hi David, yes I am using IE7.
When I run the Design Checker it tells me that I do not have alternative
text for almost every image and that I have story with text in overflow area.
This has not changed from when I first designed the web site.

I am not using the default 760 width as my computer is running on high
resolution and when I first designed the site it appeared too small for my
page, I know realise why.

I saved to a new name but still got the same problem when I tried to
preview, still no images.

After saving the htm file to desktop again I get the same problem when I
click on it. The index folder that is created at the same time has every
image stored on it.

Have you tried my site? Can you see it properly?

This problem has happened before and the only way it got put right was when
my computer crashed and had to be reloaded from scratch. That is a bit
drastic and I don't want to go down that rout again.

site ok, so it must be just my computer

Dawn,

In Mozilla, the only links on the page are Phil's history and the
fulstow site plus the email link. The Home, About Us, Product List,
etc., is an image. And BTW, even though I'm viewing the page in 1028 by
760 resolution, I still get a scroll bar. According to a survey I did,
more than 90 percent of respondents use a screen less than 1240 pixels.

Its possible that the problem has to do with IE7, but I suspect it has to do
with the one question you did not answer. If you are using a master page,
you shouldn't be. Master pages give unpredictable results in a Publisher web
document. Save it for print documents. How are you getting your background
fade color?

When I view your site, and yes I can view it just fine on IE, then on this
large monitor, there is a white space to the right of your background color.
That implies that you did not create the background color correctly. Before
doing anything else, try one experiment. Select one of your images and go to
Arrange > Order and click bring to front and or bring forward, and try
previewing your site. If that works on that image, then you have a
workaround, but not a permanent fix.

If you are using a master page for the blue color background, then remove
the master page. To properly apply a background color, texture or otherwise
go to Format > Background. Try changing your background this way and test
your web preview again. Hopefully this will fix your issue.

When I set up the site, I did use one of the 'ready prepared' sites on
Publisher, is this what you mean by master page?
The blue backround colour came from that masterpage. It was a box at the
bottom of the page and I just enlarged it to incorporate it into the site. I
have now followed your instructions to remove this and have formatted the
backround instead. I hope this corrects the 'white area' issue.
I have decided that I am going to make the web site from scratch again,
without using a 'pre designed template' and see how it turns out. If I have
any other problems I will be back in touch.

Did you try the experiment I suggested about selecting one of the images
Arrange > Order and click bring to front and or bring forward, and try
previewing your site?

Before you rebuild from scratch, open a new website template in Publisher
and try doing a web page preview. What happens? If you can preview a
template, then perhaps reconsider the extra wide page, and go to the default
760.

Did you try do a preview after removing the blue shaded "background"? What
happened?

Did you have problems with previewing your site before you installed IE7? It
seems like a number of people are having problems with IE7. You could
uninstall IE7 though add & remove, and this will roll back to IE6.

I had another thought. Open IE7 > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab
and scroll down to Multimedia. Is Show Images checked?
