WebDAV issue on Office 2007 and Vista

Mark

We have numerous machines running Vista and Office 2007 that receive extra
password prompts when trying to view a document from an intranet web site
that is in the "Trusted Sites" zone in IE. They will be prompted three times
before receiving the document. Clicking 'cancel' on the authentication dialog
opens the document.

We have tracked the issue to several extra HTTP OPTIONS and PROPFIND
requests that are being issued to the web server as the document is opening.
Some of these requests are to the folder containing the document, others are
to the root of the site. The web site does not support WebDAV, and does not
need to.

How can we eliminate the excess OPTIONS and PROPFIND requests so our users
are not continuously prompted for passwords?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I'm not quite sure I'm following from the subject of your posting to the description of the issue.

What are the file types that you're trying to open and are you saying Office is making the requests or IE?

If you're using a prior version Webfolders feature that isn't supported in Office 2007 on Vista, but WebDav (via the Vista Dav
redirector) is supported.

To clarify, we are opening regular Office documents (doc, xls, etc) by
clicking a link on an HTML page. This opens the document in the proper
Office application outside of the browser, and the Office application itself
(Word, Excel, etc) is making OPTIONS and PROPFIND requests via the WebDAV
mini redirector that is included in Vista.

This is a clean install of Vista and a clean install of Office 2007, so we
have no legacy WebFolder software to worry about.

Our web site is not DAV enabled, so I would not expect to see any WebDAV
requests. But this is not the case.

Thanks,
Mark
