Weird Cross References in Word 2007

My name is Peter Sugarman. I am using MS Word 2007 for Windows. My word
document has developed some bad behavior. When I print the document, a
section that have a series of cross-references apparently goes out to other
portions of the doc. Large sections (multiple paragraphs) are then copied and
placed in the cross-reference section. This imported text act as a hotlink to
the section that they were copied from.
After I deleted this spurious text, I clicked Print Preview. All the text
that I had deleted reappeared, leaving me just where I started.

Has anyone come across this behavior? More to the point, does anyone have a
cure?
