Weird Default Margins

J

Joy Hunter

Nearly every time, but not every time, I go to print a
new document and I get the "margins outside the limit" or
some such. It asks if I'd like to Fix and if I say "Yes"
it makes the bottom or left margin 2.67" What is going
on? I ususally shut down the computer and every now and
then it works again. Why would this be happening. And
how can I stop it.

Thanks.

This is almost certainly a printer driver issue, seen almost exclusively
with HP printers. There are "margin fix" drivers at
http://www.hp.com/pond/ljbeta/index.html that reportedly solve the problem.
If by any chance you are seeing this problem on a non-HP printer, Microsoft
would like some information from you about the driver, as they're trying to
isolate the cause of the problem.

Suzanne, you were so right! It is an HP printer. I'll go
to the site you suggested to see if I can get it fixed.
Thanks.

I had the same issue with 2.67" "default" margins, and
found a work-around short of installing a new driver:

1. On print dialog, select Printer Properties.
2. Go to Finishing Tab, Quick Sets box.
3. My dialog said "untitled" here. So, I selected "User's
Manual" and then changed the settings back to one-sided,
one page per sheet.
4. Press OK.
5. Press Cancel on the Print dialog (unless you want to
print)
6. Go to print preview - your problem should be fixed!
