Weird format changes

Morris

Sometimes when I reformat a word--put it in italics or
bold or change the font size--then some of the other words
in my document that have that same formatting change. I
can always fix this by using undo (it keeps the change to
the word I meant it to apply to but not to the others),
but isn't there a way to avoid this error altogether? I am
using Word 2002 under Windows XT Professional. Thanks.

Hi Morris

The reason for this is having 'Automatically update' set for a style. When
you make a change to text that has this style, the change is also made to
the style (this is undoable, as you have found out), and that then changes
all other text in the same style (unless it has been directly formatted).
