Weird Lines on the Screen

Before I go back and complain to Mac that my laptop is broken yet again (so far in its first 3 months of life it has had to have a new Airport card and a new top case - grrrr!), has anyone else encountered strange lines that appear on the screen in Word documents?

They are little vertical lines that stay in place as you scroll the document underneath them. I'm also having issues with bits of text, especially at the ends of lines, not displaying properly. The text is there, but you can't see it or parts of the letters are missing unless you highlight it or add a carriage return, when it suddenly reappears).

I'm not doing anything complicated with colours, tables or pictures, nor is it a big file (less than 1,000 wds) although I have been using automatically numbered lists. I tried copying and paste special-ing the text to a blank document and reformatting it, but that didn't help.

thanks

The vertical lines are one symptom of an over-heading GPU chip. Apple has a
problem with some graphics cards overheating.

You may like to try powering the machine off and allowing it to cool
overnight. If it still does it first thing next morning, it is NOT the GPU
:) If it does, contact Apple: they are responding to this issue.

Note: Chips heat up very quickly: you need to carry this test out within 60
seconds of booting the machine to make sure you are testing correctly.

The other issue you are having is a typical lazy redraw bug in Word. Make
sure you have applied all the updates (use Help>Check for updates) and it
will be better. So far, the bug is not entirely fixed.

Hope this helps
