weird problem with winrar

Hi all,
I had a major problem with MSword file within a RAR archive password
protected. I opened the rar archive, double-clicked on the word file,
entered the password and edited.
Sometimes I saved it, believing it would updated the MSword file within the
rar archive. I closed MSword and, to my surprise, the RAR did not
contain an updated version of the document.
Where are now all the changes I made?
Please help me!
I suspect that a few files called msodataxxx.dat do contain something,
but I can't get any information from them: their format is scrambled.
