Weird problems w/ 2003 SP1 & FPSE 5.0.2.6738

My Windows 2003 IIS servers with FPSE version 5.0.2.6738 recently began
having problems. The problems are the FPSE just seem to quit working and I
have to the web admin to re-install them. This has happened on many of the
sites I host. One thing in common with the web sites having the problem was
the FPSE version. They all had 5.0.2.6738. There have been older versions to
run across this problem but I first noticed it with the handful that had
6738.

I haven't been able to determine the problem at all. From the web admin site
I've completely removed the FPSE and re-installed them. One particular site's
FPSE may quit working 5 minutes later. Sometimes it quits working overnight.

Something else I noticed was the web site logs. Normally, the following two
lines are added to the log when a successful Frontpage connection happens.
However, when the problem happens the only the first two lines are added.

<date> GET /_vti_inf.html - 80 - <ipaddress>
Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MS+FrontPage+6.0) - 200 0 0

<date> POST /_vti_bin/shtml.dll/_vti_rpc - 80 - <ipaddress> MSFrontPage/6.0
- 200 0 0

<date> POST /_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll - 80 EDO1\username <ipaddress>
MSFrontPage/6.0 - 200 0 0

I've checked the server extensions and the files are there. I have not
checked all the files/folders permissions but they all seem to be there and
correct for the ones I have checked. The postinfo.html & _vti_info.html files
are present as well.

Anyone have any ideas how I can determine the cause?

2003 SP1 was installed about 4 weeks ago. Not sure if that has any relation
to this problem.

When you install FPSE to a web it adds a few folders and files to that web.
If those files are deleted or renamed then FPSE will stop working until it is
reinstalled.

Yes, I am aware of that. In this particular case that isn't happening, yet,
the FPSE just quit working for no apparent reason I can find. This happens a
lot on one particular web site but has been happening often on a few other
sites.

Up until last week everything ran smoothly. My other 2003 server with SP1
has started to exhibit the same problem.

Un-install Windows 2003 SP1 until MS issues a fix regarding the FP extensions.
