Weird sudden appearance of a red background colour on inbound HTML

It started 3 days ago and no settings were changed - all inbound emails with
HTML format now have a bright red background colour, not the plain white that
I want to revert to.

It's started (the red background) not only on HTML emails but also certain
websites.
Any clues to get back to normal?
