Well I would use exchange if I could!

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: Exchange I am a home user that has both a PC and a MacBook & an Iphone. I previously had office home 2004.

I travel a lot so Exchange email was the way forward as it meant I had access to all my emails wherever I was, pc, mac & iphone. I started getting a lot of cross platform formating problems in documents so decided to upgrade to Office Home 2008.

I assumed that an upgrade would be just that and I would not use functions I already had. Now I cannot access my emails from my MacBook and having lost my 2004 disc am totally unable to fix the issue. Does anybody know a work around that may mean I can still access this? IMAP or similar?

Well as you found out, the Home edition doesn’t support Exchange. You
need the Business edition for that.
You need to check with your server administrator to figure out whether
they also support IMAP. You won’t be able to sync address book and
calendar through it though,

Corentin is right.

What I did pick up was that you're a home user so I surmised you had a
home office. Can I ask why are you using Exchange. Do you work in a
home office but are attached to a corporation.

Its kind of important to understand this. If you don't need to be on
Exchange I wouldn't be. If you do, Outlook is a far better Exchange
client than Entourage and you could use that through I'd suggest
Parallels v5 over Fusion v3. Also, if your Exchange server is 2007 you
can use Apple apps which are more robust than Entourage.

However, Entourage has a lot of valuable enhanced functionality well
over the Apple apps and there are a couple of things such as links and
Projects I prefer about Entourage so I use it for its advanced
functionality of links, categories, projects and powerful SQL like
searches.

Finally, for mail, I've use IMAP for as long as I can remember as my
mail has to be identical across all platforms and wherever I go. I
have used gmail now for well over 3 years and find its system to be
the best although its IMAP is not a 100% compliant implementation
(doesn't matter though as it works beautifully). Apple's mobileme is
IMAP along with Fastmail and others.

Depending on what you're doing and why your connected to Exchange, you
might be best to get off this Exchange. However, I have nothing
against Exchange as I use Gmail's exchange capability on my iPhone to
provide push email but its powering off of gmail's IMAP. That is, my
iPhone and only my iPhone is plugged into gmail's exchange for push
email and it works beautifully.

If you go IMAP you won't need to drop a pretty penny (its expensive)
for the bus edition of Office. Personally, I love and hate Entourage
as there are a pile of issues with it and there shouldn't be from a
company the size of Microsoft. The issues I've primarily had with it
are around sync and I've documented here a simple workaround to
provide reliable syncs but we shouldn't need this. I've felt so glad I
haven't needed to be on Exchange due to its issues.

It¹s possible the vendor where you purchased will exchange your Home &
Student version for the Business Edition. It wouldn't hurt to ask. Otherwise
IMAP is your best option. I do know users that really prefer Exchange for
syncing with their phones etc as well as email.
