What’s the most efficient use of attachments within Journals.

I’m experimenting with the idea of maintaining a filing system of corporate
documents within Outlook 2003 and need to understand how Outlook stores or
links to files maintained on a hard drive and what impact does it have on the
performance and disk space. I’ve searched the MS knowledge Base to no avail.

I’ve noticed that with attachments, links, objects all give different views
within the Journal and I’m concerned about performance of OL.

This is what I’m working with now and any suggestion would greatly be
appreciated.

Within the Journal, I make a few quick notes summarizing my report. The
report is scanned into a PDF file and stored on the hard drive. Within the
journal entry, I click on the paper clip and attach the file. The attached
item shows as an icon. This is ok, since I can always click on this to see
the full report.

When I experiment with inserting an object of the same item, the full report
displays within the Journal item. This is nice, but again, I’m worried about
performance.

I’ve been working with scanning of the documents and have settled at
scanning them in at 150dpi. Given this, each report is approximately 3-4
pages at 230K. At a minimum, I’ll do 4 reports a year.

Can anyone give me some guidance?
