The Macintosh Business Unit is considerably smaller than the team that is
responsible for Windows Office. Furthermore, the user base of Mac Office is
considerably smaller than that for Windows Office, meaning that more
applications can be developed on Windows as there are far more resources
available to them. This implies that the MacBU cannot simply port every
single application that is part of Windows Office; they simply do not have
the time nor the resources (nor the right target audience) to make Mac
versions of all the products that are available on the Windows platform.

That being said, the Publishing Layout View in Word 2008 offers some of
Publisher's functionality, and even though you cannot open FrontPage files
on the Mac, there are many other (non-MS) applications out there that allow
you to do the same job. Also, keep in mind that since you are running Mac OS
X 10.5 on an Intel machine, you can easily install and run Windows &
FrontPage/Publisher on your Mac.

Because they're not good enough :)

I'm a *current* PC user as well as a Mac user.

Publisher can't get anywhere near Adobe CS3 in terms of functionality and
refinement.

FrontPage can't keep up with DreamWeaver on the Mac. Expression Web would
be competitive with DreamWeaver, depending on what you want to do. But not
FrontPage.

Cheers

There is no Publisher for Mac, nor is there a Publisher viewer. If you
really want/have to view these types of files, you will need to do so via
Windows, either on a different PC or through software such as Boot Camp and
Parallels. Additionally, Word 2008 has a new Publish Layout View, which,
depending on your needs, might replace Publisher for you.

Hi,

no, there's nothing you can do. There is no software for the Mac that
can read Publisher files; if you need to view them, you will need to
install Windows and Publisher on your Mac, as has already been mentioned.
